COVER FEATURE: BIRD ON A WIRE
NATIONAL GRID PUTS FIRST 429 INTO UTILITY SERVICE

Bell’s well regarded 429 is already solidly established in global service but the UK’s National Grid is the first operator in the world to put a 429 into a dedicated utility role.
PASSIONATE PURSUITS
Unusually in an industry that commonly views increased utilization and multi-tasking as benchmarks of efficiency and profitability, a group of friends set up Swiss company HeliAlps and eschew that reasoning to concentrate on a single small and demanding market segment.
ROLLING ABOUT
In 1995, a close associate was fatally injured when the rescue strop he was wearing separated from the hook of a rescue hoist. The ensuing investigation revealed a well-known but little talked-about condition at the time known as ‘dynamic rollout’. The result of that investigation saw the introduction of a new rescue hook to the Australian military that is now widely used throughout the Australian industry. The question remains though, has the hard lesson been learned throughout the world’s industry?
